What is a Certified Athletic Trainer (AT)?

Certified athletic trainers specialize in the prevention, assessment, immediate care, and rehabilitation of injuries as a result from physical activity.  Athletic training has been recognized by the American Medical Association as an allied health care profession since 1990.  An ATC is the credential held by the a health care professional with a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited athletic training education program who is educated in human anatomy, human physiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, nutrition, psychology and administration and has passed a national exam that is governed by the Board of Certification.
