Fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon Dr. Brian Dierckman grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and attended the University of Notre Dame on a full-ride scholarship and was distinguished as a prestigious Notre Dame Scholar. He majored in biochemistry and graduated with Honors. In his free time, he was a walk-on member and Monogram winner of the football team and was nominated for numerous University and national academic excellence awards.

After graduating from Notre Dame, Dr. Dierckman went on to attend medical school at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. He graduated near the top of his class and was nominated for the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society.

Dr. Dierckman then decided to head south for five years, completing his residency training in orthopedic surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, one of the premier programs in the country.

Following residency, Dr. Dierckman then headed to the sunny skies of southern California to complete an additional year of fellowship training. He was fortunate enough to be selected for a fellowship at Southern California Orthopedic Institute, learning advanced arthroscopic techniques in the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle from world-renowned surgeons. He also had the opportunity to participate in the care of high school, collegiate as well as NFL, NBA, and MLB athletes, learning the nuances of sports medicine from experts in the field.

After his fellowship, Dr. Dierckman spent the past three years in a private practice group in Indianapolis, Indiana, before returning to SCOI as an attending surgeon.

As a former collegiate athlete, Dr. Dierckman has first-hand knowledge of the special and unique demands of athletes. His interest and passion for sports is what motivated him to pursue a career in sports medicine. He specializes in arthroscopic surgery, ACL reconstruction, ultrasound-guided injections, and many other surgical and nonsurgical procedures and techniques. It is his goal to treat his patient with conservative and minimally invasive procedures whenever possible. In addition, Dr. Dierckman has a strong interest in comprehensive hip care, ranging from nonsurgical treatments to arthroscopy to anterior hip replacement.

Dr. Dierckman also has a strong academic interest in sports medicine. He has been recognized as one of the future experts of arthroscopy and sports medicine. In his young career, he has already written over 30 articles and book chapters, given presentations locally, nationally, and internationally, and reviews submissions to several of the premier journals in the field. He also teaches other surgeons how to perform these complex arthroscopic procedures throughout the country. He has several ongoing research interests, including complex arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs with patches, arthroscopic treatment of shoulder dislocations, and outcomes following hip arthroscopy.

When Dr. Dierckman is not seeing patients, he enjoys playing golf and tennis as well as weightlifting, spending time with his wife Michelle, daughter Molly, and sons Brody and Blaine, and traveling around the world.

Dr. Dierckman is available to see patients at our Porter Ranch, Valencia, and Van Nuys locations.

“Dr. Dierckman is a PRO in all regards. His surgical repair of my broken knee healed completely, surpassing all my expectations. I never thought that I would have full range of motion and total use of my knee again. He was clear on what I needed to do to get the best results and he referred me to an outstanding physical therapist when I was ready. He was caring, responsible, and responsive. Every day I acknowledge my gratitude. I'd give him more stars if I could.”
