Fellowship-Trained Spine Surgeon

Todd D. Moldawer, MD, enjoys nationwide prominence as a leading orthopedic surgeon. He specializes in the evaluation and treatment of injuries and disorders of the spine, which cause pain in the neck or back.

Dr. Moldawer employs both surgical and nonsurgical treatment for patients with herniated disc and spinal stenosis—a painful disorder resulting from pressure on the nerve roots usually caused by arthritis of the spine or a spinal injury.

Dr. Moldawer attended Temple University School of Medicine and thereafter performed a four-year orthopedic surgery residency at the Hahnemann University Hospital. Dr. Moldawer then became the chief resident of orthopedic surgery at the Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Although Dr. Moldawer was qualified to begin his career as an orthopedic surgeon, he instead decided to complete advanced training in the form of a fellowship. A fellowship requires a doctor to spend one full year tutored by a well-respected mentor. Dr. Moldawer's mentor was one of the nation's leading spinal surgeons, Alexander Brodsky, MD, in Houston, Texas. It was this fellowship that launched Dr. Moldawer's subspecialization into spinal problems.

Dr. Moldawer is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American Academy of Pain Management.

Many seek Dr. Moldawer's expert opinion concerning matters within his medical expertise. Dr. Moldawer is a qualified medical examiner (QME) and an agreed medical examiner (AME) for the State of California Industrial Medical Council, Department of Industrial Relations. He also performs independent medical evaluations (IME) to resolve medical-legal disputes.

Dr. Moldawer has testified as an expert witness on many occasions. He is frequently asked to provide opinions about the nature and extent of spinal injuries as well as the more complex issue of causation and apportionment. Dr. Moldawer is routinely retained as an expert witness for both plaintiffs and defendants.

Dr. Moldawer is often consulted concerning issues of medical malpractice. In these cases, he must evaluate whether another doctor's practice of medicine was negligent. This certainly illustrates the caliber of Dr. Moldawer's experience and reputation in the community of orthopedic surgeons.

Dr. Moldawer and his wife Nancy have three beautiful girls.

"Was able to see Dr. Moldawer directly who analyzed the problem and referred me for physical therapy. The physical therapy has relieved my lower back pain caused by spinal stenosis. One of the assets of SCOI is that no matter which physician I may have seen previously, all of my previous X-rays are immediately available to all physicians and assistants through SCOI's computer system. This is a tremendous asset." – Aaron E.

"Dr. Moldawer was the first Ortho who treated me in almost 15 years. My last Ortho passed away then and I haven't had a back doctor since. Dr. Todd treated me very kindly and respectfully, and spent time with me too. I feel confident he will take care of me whenever a need for surgery become necessary in the future. The Staff is also kind and professional, going out of their way to make sure we are content with our treatment. I really scored on this Group." – Greg L.
