Velia was born and raised in San Diego, California, and chose a career in occupational therapy after working with occupational therapists to rehabilitate her upper extremity, which was injured in her teenage years. This experience, combined with her education and time as a provider, gave Velia a holistic passion for patient care. Additionally, Velia recognizes a need for diversity in the field and is proud to represent the Hispanic and Spanish-speaking populations in the hand and upper extremity specialty.

Velia completed graduate school in 2019 and worked for two and a half years in a private medical practice specializing in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation. Velia joined the Southern California Orthopedic Institute team in 2022. Velia is approved by the California Board of Occupational Therapy to practice in hand rehabilitation and facilitate the use of physical agent modalities.

Velia’s hobbies include seeking out new and interesting cuisine in Los Angeles, practicing yoga and meditation, and camping with her spouse.
