Dr. Falakassa is a Southern California native who attended the University of California, Los Angeles where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with college honors earning a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience. He then earned his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, where he graduated among the top of his class and was voted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. After medical school, Dr. Falakassa completed an orthopedic surgery internship and residency at the University of Miami Health System and Jackson Memorial Hospital, one of the nations largest and busiest hospitals, where he served as a chief resident.
Dr. Falakassa’s interest in neuroscience led him to undergo a spine surgery fellowship at Stanford University, where he trained with some of the country’s expert spine surgeons to learn the most advanced techniques and treatments for spine injuries and conditions. Dr. Falakassa has a special interest in minimally invasive techniques where he strives to shorten patient recovery and reduce post-operative pain.
Dr. Falakassa is dedicated to returning his patients to their active lifestyles and strives to get to know each patient so he can understand how to meet their unique needs and goals. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Florida Orthopaedic Society. He remains actively involved in education and research in the field of orthopedics and spinal surgery. Throughout the course of his career, he has lectured extensively in the field and his work has been published in multiple peer-reviewed book chapters and research journals, including the prestigious Spine Journal of the North American Spine Society and Spine, an international journal for study of the spine.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Falakassa enjoys hiking, skiing, and spending time with his wife and daughter.
